PLAYLINE DESIGN NEWS
Fairmead Special School, Yeovil, Somerset
June 2009
The task handed to us by Property Services was to create a secure, adventurous and enclosed play area within the large hard playground area of this Somerset Special Needs School. We duly secured the area off with our ever popular Pencil Fencing with gates. We provided a clear roofed rain protection shelter for access and use of the area during wet times.
Centrally we fitted an infant play unit complete with slide, curved climber, cargo net and steel feet and safer surfaced the whole area with a blue speckled wet pour rubber. For extra fun and activity for those with a "musical flare" we fitted some musical panels to the fence too. All of this has totally transformed this once grey and open hard surfaced area.
Pillaton Playing Fields, Cornwall - July 2009
We beat off stiff competition to create a very adventurous and fun public play area within Pillaton village in South East Cornwall.
We created a trim trail that runs the length of the field thats suitable for all age ranges, together with a Zip Wire along the top of the field using the existing slope to provide momentum, cradle swings, flat seat swings and an adapted Toddlers Kingdom that allowed it to be fitted to this very sloping site. Safer surfaced with our Saferfall safer surface to keep the very rural aspect to this delightful setting.
Elburton Primary School, Plymouth - May 2009
Playline Design were awarded the work against 2 other playground companies to create a very adventurous climbing & trim trail area within a very limited and sloping corner area of their playing field adjacent to the A379 into Plymouth. The customer first checked out other sites that Playline had already completed to ascertain how good the installations that they already had completed were, obviously they were very impressed and awarded Playline the contract coupled with the fact that they had best value for money.
The design was to create a linked trim trail consisting of a mix of low and high level items to allow for the use of the equipment by both KS1 and KS2 children. The centre piece was a bespoke built castle that commanded a view over the playing field and road. The castle consisted of a 2m x 2m floor set at between 1.5m - 2m high, a climbing wall, steps, archways, flags and a slide.
The result is a very appealing and useable adventurous activity area set against the main hard play areas to make it useable for most of the year with the use of Saferfall mats laid onto a membrane.
Cardinal Road Primary School - London - March / April 2009
Proof that once we carry out work for a customer they welcome us back time and time again - Playline Design first started working at this school some 3 years ago and have completed phases of work during each of the past 3 years with this being the last of the 3 phases.
Playline were asked to provide quotes for this project and won through with our very bespoke and interesting designs. The brief was to remove the old play unit and cover over the areas of existing safer surfacing so that they weren't visible upon completion.
Our plans included 2 major bespoke pieces, these were the 'Play Ship' & 'Play Castle' together with their respective safer surfaces which had to be bright welcoming. Coupled with this Playline also installed a second Mayflower play unit into the school as they liked the first one so much!!!
The original 2 phases consisted of a 'Play Bus', 'Mayflower' Play unit with wet pour rubber, 'Imagination Playhouse' and thermoplastic markings.
ROK Group (New School Build) - Foxhole Primary School, Torbay - April / May 2009
Playline Design were contracted by ROK Group to supply the exterior playground equipment, space net, shade sail, trim trail, safer surfaces, line markings and seating for this ambitious and very striking new school build in Paignton, Devon for Torbay Borough Council. Working as a contractor for ROK we worked alongside them and their contractors on a very tight timescale and with very limited access and successfully completed the work as the pictures show - we will issue more pictures as and when we are able.
The new 'Little Captains' play unit was specially designed for this site with its curved panel, triangular floor and our new type steel feet and it's ideal for the younger ones, it will now feature in our new catalogue.
New Catalogue - 2009 Edition
Our exciting new catalogue should be available from the end of June. We are currently sending out the existing 2008/09 catalogue and will gladly send you the new one if you request it. There are a lot of new and exciting ideas and Pictures from sites that we've only just completed.
Ferndale Primary School, Swindon, Wiltshire - April 2009
Playline Design were awarded the work in this Swindon Primary School mainly after completing a couple of very successful projects nearby in Wiltshire.
The project involved creating a very colourful and challenging trim trail / assualt course within an enclosed area of the school grounds.
The results as you can see from the pictures are dramatic with the project being a huge success.
Ernesettle School - New Build in conjunction with Plymouth City Council & Interserve Project Services Ltd.
Playline Design were contracted by the very well respected commercial development giant Interserve Project Services Ltd to provide this new school build on the outskirts of Plymouth. Playline provided the play equipment for the beautifully designed internal 'quad' area as well as the brightly coloured wet pour rubber safer surface covering approximately 1000m²!! At present Playline are in the process of waiting for the outside area to be landscaped so that they can install the remainder of the work to finalise this huge and impressive new school.
'Play Tank' Project - Wiltshire - December 2008
In Autumn 2008 Playline Design were asked to design totally from scratch a 'Play Tank' for an MOD base in Wiltshire. Playline were given just two days to do this, including
to totally cost it up and provide visuals. This was achieved and the outcome was an order for it to be manufactured. Working in conjunction with Record Playgrounds, Playline
Design manufactured it and added the finishing touches, including its stainless steel barrel to provide this really impressive and unique piece of playground equipment.
Wembury Primary School, South Devon - August 2008 to February 2009 in phases
In the summer of 2008 we completely revamped the infant playground. Part of the work involved clearing back some extra space into the side of the sloping field. We did this and formed a graded bank and fenced around it. Then we provided a stone base underneath and finished off with a lovely green layer of wet pour rubber that finished flush with the existing playground, this gave the children an extra 64m² of space. We also designed and built a bespoke continuous trim trail at low level, especially designed for the KS1 children.
On the same playground we provided a seating area in the form of our Plymouth Longship boat, a Fireball for ball games and ball shooting skills made especially lower for the younger ones, some Toadstools for storytelling and some thermoplastic markings to brighten the remainder of the area and to provide that extra aspect of physical play without the risk of running into obstacles.
In January 2009 we have just developed the junior playground and field are with a well designed trim trail, Fireball, markings and access to the pond area by means of a deck and pathway. Photos to come soon of the junior area. Please take a look at the KS1 area pictures above.
Altogether a great success with 'Suzie' the headteacher remarking that 'The whole project has transformed play / lunchtimes & has given the children a real focus as well as a sense of enjoyment. The well being of pupils & staff has improved as has the development of teaching beyond the classroom'.
Awnings
Playline have very successfully began promoting and installing awnings in various schools and commercial areas. These are a great alternative to the standard
shade sails, lean to's and other more traditional shelters. Great where the customer requires there to be the freedom to use the area without posts being present
and where they wish to have the option of being able to remove and replace the shelter when needed. These awnings arent the lightweight variety often seen for use
at home or in DIY centres, they are built for a commercial purpose and some come complete with mechanical winders, electric winders, wind speed detectors so that
they automatically retract in strong wind - all clever stuff!! Please speak to us about the range, there's so much available at surprisingly low prices.
St Minver, Cornwall - February / March 2009
Playline where successfull in winning the contract to revamp the complete play area in rock near Wadebridge, Cornwall. Competition was stiff from a number of companies but Playline were awarded the work due to the very imaginatve design and value for money. The project had been ongoing for a number of years and all the way along Playline has attended meetings and redesigned the area on a number of occasions, giving the flexibility thats needed on major £60k projects such as this.
Playline have introduced steel feet for their units together with innovative 'leaf style' roofs for a very pleasant finish. It is anticipated that these will be rolled out across the range in the very near future. The project is due to complete at the end of February 2009 at which stage we should have some excellent pictures. North Cornwall District Council are overseeing the work and Playbuilder, who have funded the project are using it as an example to other local groups to promote what is posible when the community gets together and works very hard to achieve a fantastic outcome for the local children. The local people concerned have been actively on site taking pictures and watching the outcome to years of grant sourcing and meetings and hopefully taking a well earned break from it all!!!
NEW - Steel Feet!!
Playline are very proud to announce the option of using galvanised steel feet for their play units and trim trail items. This has come about after a lot
of research and designing with a local fabricator to see how best to extend the life of play items.
Widely used by the larger Scandanavian companies, in Britain there are very few that use steel feet.
This option takes the quality of Playline Design's products to an even higher level, especially within the schools section where this option isn't readily available. The cost of using steel feet doesn't add a great deal to the price of the unit but will provide the assurance of knowing that ground rot will not be a problem in years to come.
NEW - Leaf Roofs!!
Playline's tower units now come with the option of bespokely designed roofs with the appearance of 'leafs' on top. These CURVED panels are very appealing and have been designed to fit on the towers at an angle, this makes them very distinctive to the other traditional pitched roof design offered by all others. An example of a Leaf Roof can be seen in the St. Minver news item (above).
NEW - Pre School Range
Playline have been very busy designing a range of Pre School play units and range items and have worked very closely with a Pre School and Day Nursery Group. This interaction between the 2 companies has provided some fabulous new equipment free of charge to the Pre School whilst at the same time provided Playline Design the chance to test out and photo the equipment in use. Playline have added the range to the website, it will also appear in the newer catalogue in due course too. The equipment which consists of permanant outdoor items such as a 'cooker', 'washer','dryer', miniature picnic table of a very heavy duty, with the option of having a 'sand pit' top fitted to it. The designing goes on with a whole range coming in the next month or so. Keep watching the website for further details and take a look at the Pre school play equipment section on this site.
